In response to the increasing demand for specialized pet eye care, Thrive Pet Healthcare and its partner, Eye Care for Animals, are announcing the opening of their second specialty ophthalmology clinic in Austin: Eye Care for Animals, Far West Boulevard.
The new practice is conveniently located at 3908A Far West Boulevard in Austin.
“We are excited to have this opportunity to help more pets across the Austin area while continuing to provide excellent care,” said Dr. Mary Lucille Walsh, a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist at Eye Care for Animals, Far West Boulevard. “Many pets have or develop eye problems that may require specialty care, and our team is here to provide the support and expertise that is needed. Our goal is to preserve their vision and always maintain an excellent quality of life.”
Treatment for a Range of Eye Conditions
Eye Care for Animals Far West Boulevard treats most eye conditions, which can majorly affect pets’ health and quality of life. The clinic specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions such as:
- Corneal ulcers
- Dry eye
- Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
- Eyelid masses
- Cataracts
- Glaucoma
- Cherry eye (prolapsed third eyelid gland)
- Entropion (eyelids rolling inward)
With advanced training and state-of-the-art equipment, Dr. Walsh is well-prepared to diagnose and treat several complex eye conditions in pets. Her expertise and the ongoing advancements in veterinary medicine ensure that state-of-the-art treatment, once available only to humans, is now offered to pets.
Dr. Walsh emphasizes early intervention for your pet’s eye health.
“Most pets can maintain an excellent quality of life even with partial or complete vision loss,” she said. “However, it is important to have them evaluated so we can ensure that the cause of the vision loss is not resulting in discomfort or pain for the animal. Owners are often the first to detect subtle changes in their pet’s behavior or vision at home, and early detection and treatment can spare unnecessary suffering and may even stop the progression to blindness.”
Thrive Pet Healthcare welcomed Austin’s first Eye Care for Animals into its community of hospitals in 2017. It’s located at 12419 Metric Boulevard, within Thrive Pet Healthcare partner Austin Vet Care.
Collaborative, Personalized Eye Care
Eye Care for Animals is special because they collaborate with the pet’s primary care veterinarian to optimize a course of treatment. That approach is a team effort, which, combined with the clinic’s advanced technology and the expertise of its ophthalmology team, ensures that every pet receives the best possible care.
The first Eye Care for Animals was established in 1981. Since then, it has expanded to 40 locations across 16 states and treats over 55,000 pets each year. With the opening of this Austin location, Thrive Pet Healthcare furthers its commitment to improving pet health and well-being through accessible specialized care.
